The Washington County
Historical Preservation
Society was founded in July
1985 and in 1986 the city of
Chipley leased the Society
the building situated under
the old water tower at the
intersection of Hwy 90 and
Hwy 77.

Since
that time we have been
collecting pictures,
literature and items to
display and ten
years later (in October
1996) the Historical Society
held a Grand Opening at the
Museum and began inviting
the public to visit.
The Museum
offers a colorful and
tangible glimpse at
Washington County’s people,
industry and lifestyles.
Some of our collections
include
school
yearbooks dating back to
1942, phone company
memorabilia, parlor items,
train display, local
mercantile items, research
materials, old bottles, pen
& ink drawings by Don
Crossley of local sites,
kudzu display / C.E. Pleas /
Glen Arden Nursery,
turpentine Industry and farm
implements
We also have
a large selection of books
for sale by local authors
about Washington County’s
history.
